Catch The Beaukes

Spheres fall from the sky. Catch them, upgrade, prestige, and unlock a new sky.

by Milan Raijmakers · 22 Nov, 2024 · Steam

Catch The Beaukes is built on a single absurd image executed with total seriousness: Beaukes, which are spheres, fall from the sky, and you catch them to earn money. Milan Raijmakers released this solo incremental in November 2024, and the store page's explanation of the loop is almost childlike in its honesty: collect the falling things, upgrade so you earn even more.

What the loop feels like

The sky rains value and you are the net. Each caught Beauke becomes cash, each cash buys an upgrade, and the upgrades multiply the falling, so the early game is a pleasant feedback squall of catching and spending. That's Catch The Beaukes.

Quests give the rain some shape, and when the current sky is exhausted, prestige and rebirth carry your progress into new maps with fresh things falling out of them. It is the genre's oldest promise, made in the silliest possible vocabulary. The vocabulary is doing a lot of work here, and it knows it. That's Catch The Beaukes.

The systems doing the work

A transparency note of our own: the mechanics research pass could not find this game at all, so the systems here come from the store page and the criticism pass. The documented structure is a four-stage incremental: catching falling Beaukes as the core verb and income source, upgrades as the compounding layer, quests as the short-term goal layer, and prestige or rebirth as the long-game layer that trades accumulated progress for access to new maps, each one larger than the last. What the falling actually looks like, how aim or movement factors in, and how the maps differ are details the record does not specify.

Where it stumbles

The community's read is that this is bare-bones even by micro-indie standards, and the practical complaints are specific: the music reportedly cannot be muted properly, which matters in a game you leave running; earnings and multipliers hit economy walls that make certain milestones exceptionally tedious to push past; and on the larger maps that prestige unlocks, movement feels sluggish because meaningful speed upgrades never arrive. The small review footprint means no balance consensus and no patch velocity to count on, and the loop's charm depends entirely on whether catching a sphere stays funny to you after the first thousand.

The verdict

A tiny, sincere catching incremental that does exactly what its title says and stops. Hold out your net, collect the sky, and rebirth responsibly.
