Creeper Cooker
Click the creeper, hire zombies to click for you, and outlive the platform you were built on.
by Deathassassin05 · 15 September, 2013 · Web (Flash)
Flash died on 31 December 2020, and it took most of its back catalogue with it. Creeper Cooker is still alive on Newgrounds, which is both the reason this entry exists and, as far as verified public copies go, the only place it lives. We searched Flashpoint's database in August 2026: zero results for the title. No museum has this one. One website's refusal to delete anything does.
The game itself is a Minecraft-themed clicker that Deathassassin05 uploaded on 15 September 2013, five weeks after Cookie Clicker kicked off the browser-clicker boom. The on-page blurb says it plainly: "Click to cook creepers, hire zombies to click for you.(ALPHA)" Missing space, chaotic capitalisation, ALPHA in brackets, and nothing on the page suggests it ever left that state. The author's comment fills in the rest: "once you get up so much money, you can buy Zombies, and even skeletons to cook creepers for you", plus "Options for price osculation are in the options menu", which is how you spell oscillation when you have better things to do than spellcheck a free game.
The loop
You click the creeper icon and a creeper gets cooked. Money comes out. That's the loop.
You save up and hire a zombie, and the zombie clicks for you. Later a skeleton joins, because one species of unpaid undead labourer was never going to be enough. That's the loop.
Somewhere in the options menu sits a price oscillation setting the author calls "price osculation", a knob for the game's only economy beyond the click. That's the loop, and it is also the whole genre as 2013 drew it: manual click, buy automator, watch number rise.
The reviews add one undocumented technique. "USE ENTER TO COOK ALOt of creepers", a January 2015 review advises, and that is the closest thing to an autoclicker in the game: the keyboard was the best automation all along.
The score went up after Flash died
The Wayback Machine caught the page at 1.55 stars and 40,150 views in January 2015. Today the same page reads 2.08 out of 5 across 73 votes, with 81,372 views and 13 faves. A game that outlived its own platform has gained more than half a star since the Obama administration.
The reviews are half the show. "Sort'a like Cookie Clicker", wrote bugbugrug in February 2014, awarding 3.5 of 5, which remains the fairest four words ever committed about this game. "I SPEND 7 HOUR AND I GOT 10000!!!!" is the entire clicker-player experience in one sentence. And on 11 October 2020, nine months before the plugin's funeral, someone called it "Simply a waste of storage." Eleven pages of this, and counting.
How to play it in 2026
Flash end-of-life landed on 31 December 2020 and browsers stripped the plugin within weeks. Old SWFs now survive through two main channels: Flashpoint Archive, the community preservation project, and Newgrounds' own stack, which runs Flash content in-browser through Ruffle, a Flash emulator written in Rust, and offers the Newgrounds Player desktop app for the content Ruffle can't stomach.
Creeper Cooker is in the second camp almost by accident. It is not in Flashpoint's public database: the exact title returns nothing as of August 2026, and a wider search for "creeper" surfaces other people's Minecraft games, none of them this.
What remains is the Newgrounds page itself, which still serves the game with the site's standard warning that it "may not be compatible with your device". Whether the SWF runs clean in Ruffle we can't personally confirm.
The evidence it still runs somewhere is the newest review on the page, dated 9 June 2023, which reads, in full, "very good". Somebody, somewhere, is still cooking.
The r/incremental_games community's Ultimate List carries it as "Creeper Cooker, Deathassassin05 · Web (Flash), 2D, complete", which is how this entry knows the game is finished. Complete, for a game that self-identifies as (ALPHA), appears to mean "the author stopped", and on Newgrounds both labels have always been true at once.
The verdict
As a clicker, Creeper Cooker is a footnote with a 2.08 rating, and the rating is being generous. As an artefact, it is exactly the kind of thing the Flash era mass-produced in 2013, when Cookie Clicker had been out for five weeks and the genre was reproducing faster than anyone could archive it. Most of those games are gone. This one survived on the whims of a site that never deletes anything, now scores higher dead than it ever did alive, and still takes the Enter key. Cook on.
