Money Maker
Click your way from nothing to the greatest empire ever known, one mouse button at a time.
by Rocco Gough · 5 Apr, 2023 · Steam
Money Maker has the most direct title in its genre and a pitch to match: embark on a journey to build the greatest empire ever known by simply clicking your mouse. Rocco Gough released this solo indie in April 2023, and the store page frames the whole game in one continuous gesture, starting small and gradually expanding your empire one click at a time.
What the loop feels like
It is the genre's founding ritual, performed without irony. You click, wealth accumulates, the empire expands a step at a time, and the feedback between finger and fortune is the entire relationship the game offers. That's Money Maker.
The pleasure it trades in is the oldest one in the category: watching a number that was once your whole net worth become a rounding error on the way to the next milestone. Some games dress that up. This one, by all appearances, is the dress-up-free version. That's Money Maker.
How it actually works
A frank note on sources: both of our AI research passes matched to a different, better-known game with the same name, one with a timed escape premise that has nothing to do with this release, so everything here rests on the Steam listing. What it documents is a pure clicker-empire arc: clicking as the core income verb, gradual expansion as the progression frame, and wealth maximization as the stated goal. Specific systems, upgrade trees or prestige layers are not documented anywhere we could find, and we will not borrow mechanics from the other game to fill the gap.
Where it stumbles
The honest reading is that this is a minimal, four-review curiosity with no community footprint, no documentation and no visible update history. The pure clicking loop it describes is the genre at its most undiluted, which means no systems to master and nothing to sustain interest once the novelty of the title wears off. The mixed reception and the research confusion around its name both suggest a game that never found its audience.
Playing it today
Money Maker is a Windows release on Steam at budget pricing. For empire-by-clicking with actual depth, AdVenture Capitalist is the genre's gold standard and Grind Mindset adds an economy to the hustle.
The verdict
A bare, honest, four-review clicker that promises exactly what clicking delivers. If the title is already funny to you, you may be its audience.
