CoinBrawl

A free bitcoin RPG faucet: brawl for satoshis in a RoR web game, dead with the bear market.

by unknown · 2015 · Web (defunct)

CoinBrawl called itself a Free Bitcoin RPG Faucet: a Ruby-on-Rails browser game where you brawl to earn satoshis, with accounts, a leaderboard, referral links and ad banners, a complete crypto-economy toy from the 2015-2016 cycle. It is also dead, and this entry is what survives.

What the loop feels like

The documented shape was active clicking, idle progression and a resource economy wearing bitcoin: brawl for satoshis, grow the stash, climb the leaderboard. The faucet framing meant the game's currency was nominally real, which made every number on screen feel slightly more consequential than it was. That's CoinBrawl.

Then the site died with the market cycle that produced it. It now serves a parking page, the developer was never publicly identified, and the Wayback Machine's October 2022 capture preserves the original title and structure. That's CoinBrawl, in the only form it still takes.

The systems doing the work

Honesty first: the game itself does not run from the archive. The archived CSS and JS bundles return redirects rather than content, a common and honest limitation of web preservation, so the mechanics sheet above rests on the site's own structure and the record's genre tags. What the archive did catch is the site's own assets: the character sprite sheet, the ad banner and the background tile, pulled from the CDX index, which is how this entry has period art at all.

Where it stumbles

It stumbles out of existence entirely. There is no playable copy, no credited developer, and no community record beyond the archive, so this entry cannot grade the game, only document it. The faucet economy it belonged to was a real genre for about eighteen months, and its collapse took the game with it.

Playing it today

Not playable: the October 2022 capture preserves the shell, and the sprites survive, but the ledger does not. This is a historical entry from bitcoin's first browser-game wave, kept as a record rather than a recommendation.

The verdict

A historical entry from bitcoin's first browser-game wave: the faucet economy was a real genre for about eighteen months, and this was its RPG. The sprites survive; the ledger does not.
