Farm and Mine

From a Ludum Dare potato game to a 67-facility production chain: Airapport's deepening city builder.

by Airapport · 2021 · Web / itch.io

Farm and Mine is Airapport's production-chain city builder, and its origin story is the jam-game dream: born at Ludum Dare 48 in April 2021, theme Deeper and Deeper, as a potato-digging toy, then expanded by the developer into a full idle city builder with sixty-seven facilities, forty-five resources, sixty-four inventions, forty-two professions, forty-six achievements and six cats.

What the loop feels like

You dig a farm plot, the farm feeds a mine, and the mine deepens the city. That's Farm and Mine.

Facilities stack into chains, inventions unlock new layers of production, professions specialize your population, and the cats supervise. The three branches, agriculture, industry and population, interlock until reshuffling one ripples through all of them, and the integrated autoclicker plus unlimited offline earnings mean the city keeps producing while you are away. That's Farm and Mine.

The named systems

The production chains are the spine: sixty-seven facilities turning forty-five resources into each other across agriculture, industry and population branches. Inventions, sixty-four of them, are the tech layer, each unlocking further production depth. Professions, forty-two strong, shape what your population contributes. The prestige system is elaborate by browser-idle standards, resetting progress for permanent multipliers once the city outgrows its run. The integrated autoclicker removes the pure-clicking chore, and offline earnings are unlimited rather than capped, a quiet statement of priorities. Forty-six achievements chart the long game, and the six cats are, as far as the documentation shows, exactly what they appear to be.

Where it stumbles

The honest gaps are structural rather than mechanical. The web version on Poki is published under a contract with heavier ads and runs slightly behind on updates, so browser players get the oldest build. The presentation is dense rather than pretty, and a production-chain builder with this many interlocks asks for patience before its shape becomes legible. Community documentation beyond the developer's own posts and Discord is thin, so late-game prestige strategy is mostly self-taught.

Playing it today

Free on Poki in the browser and on itch.io for Windows and Linux, with macOS support reported by the developer; Android and iOS listings exist under the Airapport name. A major content update landed in mid-2024, and the developer's Discord is the active community hub. For more production-chain idling, see Refarm and Fungiculture in this catalog.

The verdict

A deep, complete and charming production-chain idle: the jam seed grew into one of the better browser city-builders in the genre, with the numbers to prove it. The autoclicker, unlimited offline earnings and genuine depth make it easy to recommend to anyone who wants their chains long and their cats present.
