Fidget Spinner RPG

Mine, smith, brew and haggle your way to spinning a toy at ever more absurd RPM. A full crafting-RPG skeleton wearing a 2017 meme as a hat, and Very Positive for it.

by Bryce Summer · 26 Sep, 2023 · Steam (Windows)

Fidget Spinner RPG should be a joke, and it briefly is one, and then you notice the skill list has eleven entries and the crafting system rolls stats per proficiency and the meme has quietly become a proper RPG. Bryce Summer's incremental, released on Steam in September 2023, has one stated purpose: spin a fidget spinner to absurd, ever increasing RPM. Everything else, mining, blacksmithing, alchemy, haggling, exists in service of that number. It sits at Very Positive on Steam, which tells you the bit lands.

Fidget Spinner RPG gameplay

What the loop feels like

You flick the spinner, the RPM climbs, and it stalls against a wall your gear cannot beat. That's Fidget Spinner RPG.

You go mining, smith something better, roll a nicer stat on the third craft, and the ceiling lifts. That's Fidget Spinner RPG.

You return to the spinner, it screams past its old limit, and the screen starts doing things the physics engine should probably not permit. That's Fidget Spinner RPG, and the bit never stops being the point.

The systems under the spin

Eleven skills form the spine: Competency, Spinning, Mining, Blacksmithing, Jewelcrafting, Haggling, Alchemy, Engineering, Salvaging, Construction and Prestige. Each skill is not just a number; it delivers base stat bonuses, unlocks abilities and features, and opens a passive talent tree to spend points in, so levelling anything is a small build decision. Haggling feeding the merchant economy and Salvaging feeding the crafting loop give the skills reasons to talk to each other.

The item layer is the deepest part. Gear rolls combinations of the game's 13 main stats plus unique effects that change how you play, and every craft of the same item raises your crafting proficiency for it, making subsequent rolls better. That per-item proficiency curve turns grinding the forge into a strategy: repeat crafts are never wasted, they are statistical investment. Prestige works as both a skill and a philosophy, resetting progress for permanent capability, and the nonlinear task structure means you can chase whatever bottleneck annoys you most. All of it converges on RPM, with escalating over-the-top effects as the reward for every threshold crossed.

Where it stumbles

The premise caps its audience before the game does: if a spinner meme annoys you on sight, no talent tree will save the relationship. The presentation is functional rather than pretty, and mid-game pacing leans on the classic incremental rhythm of waiting for resources, which the crafting proficiency system softens but does not erase. Players who want a clear critical path may find the nonlinear progression disorienting early. It is a hobbyist-priced indie built by one developer, and it feels like one, in both the charming and the rough-edged senses.

Playing it today

Live on Steam for Windows at a budget price, single-player and fully offline once installed, with Steam Cloud saves. The platform check found no iOS or Android release by the same developer, so mobile versions you may find are not from Bryce Summer. No Linux or macOS build on the store page.

The verdict

Proof that a meme wrapper is not a disqualification: underneath the spinner is a legitimate skill-and-crafting incremental with real build depth and a pricing model that respects your curiosity. Come for the joke, stay for the proficiency rolls. If the crafting itch survives, Magic Research scales the same skeleton up, and for a goofier premise with less depth, Treasure Chest Clicker is the lighter snack.
