Gaben Clicker
The 2013 Gabe Newell parody clicker: click Gabens, buy hats, archived from a dead domain.
by unknown · 2013 · Web (defunct)
Gaben Clicker is the 2013 Gabe Newell parody clicker from the genre's first meme wave: click Gabe to earn Gabens, spend them on hats, repeat. Its host, gabenclicker.gweb.io, now serves a domain-parking page (verified), and the October 2013 Wayback capture holds the real game, whose archived JavaScript literally tracks a 'Gabens' currency in localStorage, which is how this entry confirmed its identity against a dozen name-lookalikes.
What it was
A Gabe-faced clicker with a hat shop. The loop was the 2013 template with the skin swapped: click the animated Gabe sprite, watch the Gabens counter climb, and buy things that raise output or simply sit in your inventory as collectible flavor. The five recovered hat sprites above (hat1 through hat5) were the shop's cosmetics, the animated Gabe was the hero image, and the joke was exactly as deep as 2013 required. There is no documented prestige layer, narrative or endgame beyond the counter, and the author is unrecorded.
Where it sits
Squarely in the boom year. Cookie Clicker arrived in 2013 and dragged incremental games into the mainstream, and Gaben Clicker belonged to the flood of parody theme-swaps that followed, where the joke was often as important as the progression. It circulated through the early r/incremental_games recommended lists and was indexed by Kotaku and GameFAQs, a small web novelty carried by the same meme current as everything else that year. For the real thing it riffed on, see Cookie Clicker.
Playing it today
Only through the archive. The original domain is gone, so the Wayback capture is the complete playable record, five hat sprites and all.
The verdict
A historical meme-clicker, preserved at the moment the genre was learning that jokes decay faster than loops. Of its era, complete in its archive, and honestly labelled: author unknown, domain parked.
