Gold Rush
An ASP.NET gold-mining idle whose 2018 'latest' snapshot is a parking page, but whose 2015 soul survives.
by (goldrushgame.net) · 2014 · Web (defunct)
Gold Rush is the gold-mining browser incremental that lived at goldrushgame.net, listed in this index's source data as dead, and its archival story is a cautionary tale: the site died (verified DNS-failure), the last 2018 Wayback capture is a domain-parking page, and the actual game survives only in the 2014-2015 captures that the CDX had to be queried for directly.
What it was
An ASP.NET sprite-based incremental with Miner, Store, Prestige, City, Inventory and Statistics panels: a full management loop, built on an unusual-for-the-genre server stack. The recovered sprite sheet above (mine scene, miners, ores, the STORE panel) is visually confirmed first-party art. Disambiguated from Sierra's 1988 adventure, the Kongregate match-3, Yandex's game, and Steam's Gold Rush: The Game.
The verdict
A historical entry with a lesson attached: check what the 'latest' archive actually contains. The parking page fooled nobody here, and the real game's sprites are preserved.
