-ing Angler
An idle fishing game that promises you will not need to click. It keeps the promise.
by TakuyaMiyazaki · 2 Feb, 2025 · Steam
The full title is -ing Angler, the pitch is one sentence, and the attitude is all in the promise: an idle fishing game where you do not even need to click the screen regularly, and, the store page adds, it will not take long. TakuyaMiyazaki released this small Windows game in February 2025, and it is about as low-commitment as the genre gets: catch lots of black bass, earn money, upgrade your tools.
What the loop feels like
You drop a line and things happen without you. The game's whole posture is that fishing should continue whether or not you are paying attention, so the loop is cast, wait, collect, and occasionally glance over the way you would glance at a kettle. The store copy says it outright: once you start, there is nothing else for you to do, so go watch videos, work, or play something else, and keep this running in a corner. That's -ing Angler.
Check in more often and the pace rewards you the way a quick fishing trip does: money saved, tools upgraded, and bigger bass on the line, with the game noting cheerfully that black bass grow in size without limit. The rising wave of inflation is the upgrade ladder's framing, and the honest appeal is a small, pleasant drip of progress rather than a deep simulation of angling. That's -ing Angler.

How it actually works
The named systems, per the store page alone, are idle accumulation, tool upgrades that raise the size and count of your catches, and a short-session design that wants the game running unattended. A research honesty note: both dedicated research passes matched to a better-known fishing game rather than this one, and the community footprint is a handful of reviews, so no deeper mechanics documentation exists and none is invented here. What the record supports is the promise on the tin: no skill, no technique, no required clicking.
Where it stumbles
Thin documentation cuts both ways, and so does thin design. With such a small player base there is no community consensus on long-haul depth, no guides for optimization, and the game's own pitch tells you not to expect a time sink. Players wanting real angling systems, gear ladders or species ledgers should look elsewhere, and anyone expecting the loop to evolve past bigger numbers of bigger fish will hit its ceiling quickly.
Playing it today
A Windows-only release on Steam from TakuyaMiyazaki, priced like a snack, with achievements for the completionists. For fishing idles with more documented depth, Luna's Fishing Garden, Grove Fisher and Fishing The Abyss are all covered on this site.
The verdict
A pocket-sized idle fisher that asks almost nothing of you, which is precisely the ask. Cast it, forget it, come back to a fuller bucket.
