Little Crab Fisher
Click crabs out of a cartoon sea, unlock islands, and hunt the mythical ones.
by Douglass Interactive · 2023 · Steam (Windows)
There is a crab census to be taken and the Crustacean Sea will not census itself. Little Crab Fisher, released by Douglass Interactive in March 2023 and since made free on Steam, is a clicker about sailing a cartoon boat from island to island and pulling increasingly improbable crabs out of the water, swapping the fuel gauges and physics of maritime simulators for pure low-friction collecting.
What the loop feels like
You click, you catch, you click more. Catches become gold, gold becomes ship upgrades, and the upgraded boat opens new sailing regions with their own weather and their own crabs. Early on your clicking does real work; the point of the upgrade shop is to hand the job to automation so the haul keeps arriving while you do something else. One piece of early advice from completionists: buy storage capacity before cosmetics, because a full hold bottlenecks every long stretch of passive hauling. That's Little Crab Fisher.
Then there are the mythical crabs. One waits at each location, and finding them is less clicking and more wandering: hidden chests, odd codes, and combinations the community forum worked out together. You find them by accident, you remember where, and the next day you tell someone about it. That's the loop too, and it is the part that gives this small game its personality.

The systems doing the work
Five named systems: the incremental catching loop of rhythmic clicks plus automated passive collection, high seas travel unlocking regions, weather variants and deeper biomes, ship customisation scaling haul capacity, click power and passive generation rates, secret and chest hunting for high-tier rewards, and achievement tracking across forty Steam achievements tied to click milestones, lifetime catches, chest cracking and prestige tiers. The prestige side stays light, so the achievements do the long-tail work.
Where it stumbles
The criticism from its Mostly Positive crowd is unusually self-aware: this is a short game. There is no deep automation tree and no real prestige ladder, so it plays out in an evening or two rather than a month, and the mechanics stay surface-level next to feature-rich idlers. The chest codes are obscure without clear in-game hints, and honesty note: that detail in our record comes from forum-adjacent material, since the Steam community hub is largely dormant, with a couple of achievement guides and chest questions but no living discussion.

Playing it today
It is free on Steam for Windows from Douglass Interactive, following the developer's move to a free-to-keep model. No mobile listings were verified for it. Boat customisation gives the gold somewhere to go, and if you want the same nautical collecting with a longer runway, Luna's Fishing Garden is the natural next port.
The verdict
A free, gentle hour or two with real charm per minute and no pretence of permanence. Treat it as a side game in short bursts, exactly as the completionists do.
