LurkBait Twitch Fishing

A cozy fishing game your Twitch chat plays for you: viewers cast with commands, points, bits or subs while you stream. Very Positive, and the lurkers are the players.

by BLAMCAM Interactive · 2024 · Steam

LurkBait Twitch Fishing is an idle game you never actually play, which is the entire point. It is a stream overlay: your viewers type a command, redeem channel points, drop bits or gift a sub, and a fishing line pops up on your broadcast while a bot announces the catch in chat. BLAMCAM Interactive shipped it in February 2024, priced it like a coffee, and streamers have kept it at a Very Positive verdict for turning the oldest problem in streaming, the silent army of lurkers, into a crowd of competitive anglers.

What the loop feels like

Someone in chat types !fish, a line drops onto your overlay, the bot reports the catch. That's LurkBait.

Your queue fills while you focus on the actual game, and nobody in chat misses their turn. That's LurkBait.

A viewer pulls a legendary custom fish with your mod's face on it, and chat loses its mind. That's LurkBait.

The mechanics under the overlay

The Chat and Event Integration is the spine: five cast triggers, chat commands defaulting to !fish, channel points, bits, subs and gifted subs, usable alone or in combination, with every cast auto-queued so no one misses out. Customization is where it gets sticky for communities: streamers can create custom catches with their own images, inside jokes and mod avatars, set their value, and the game calculates rarity automatically. Viewers get a leaderboard and a fish dex they can pull up with commands, plus a stats command for their gold and catch counts. On the technical side it runs locally, captures cleanly through OBS Game Capture with transparency settings so there is no ugly black box in your layout, and it scales its own performance down automatically when your actual game needs the CPU. Twitch auth is stored locally with no extra signups or fees, mods can cast on behalf of viewers, and a pause-queue button exists purely for wrapping up a stream.

Where it stumbles

As a game it is thin, and honest assessments say so: the core gameplay is a catch animation, a rarity table and a leaderboard, with no real progression for an individual player beyond bragging rights. It only has value if you actually stream, for a non-streamer there is nothing here at all. Big chats can turn the fishing into background spam that competes with your content for attention, which is why the mute button exists. And the fish dex depth, while charming, is no substitute for a real fishing sim. It is a tool that gamifies chat, not a game you boot up on a quiet evening.

The verdict

One of the cleanest executions of the stream-integration genre: set it up in minutes, let it run itself, and watch lurkers become regulars chasing a leaderboard. The community-centric progression is a smart reframe of what idle progression can mean, your audience grinds, not you. For other cozy collectors that run themselves, Croakoloco trades chat for frogs, and Pomofarm does background companionship for solo workers.
