Merge Hero
Merge 200 items, forge your own hero build, and idle-fight through 100 monsters, if the bugs let you.
by PaulArt · 4 Apr, 2022 · Steam
Merge Hero costs less than a chocolate bar, and its store page sells the fantasy confidently: an idle RPG where you merge two hundred unique items into stronger ones, fight a hundred kinds of monsters and bosses, and forge any hero build you like out of the parts. PaulArt released it in April 2022, Windows only, with global leaderboards and a light-versus-dark theme toggle.
What the community record says is less confident. Reception has been negative-leaning on a small base, the player count collapsed after launch, and development stopped: no meaningful post-release support ever arrived. The version you can buy today is the version that shipped, faults included.

What the loop feels like
Your hero fights on their own while you manage the spreadsheet side: equipment slots, stat spreads, and a pause button for taking care of inventory at your own speed. That's Merge Hero.
Then the merging starts: two lesser items combine into one stronger item, the sell pile funds permanent upgrades across ten stats, and the build you are forging stops being a default and starts being yours. That's Merge Hero.
Items, stats and the forge
The named systems from the store page: idle fights that run themselves, pause-any-time inventory management, a hundred monsters and deadly bosses as the difficulty ladder, two hundred unique items that equip and merge, and the ten-stat permanent upgrade shop funded by selling your leftovers. Pixel graphics, retro music, a global ranking system, achievements, and that theme toggle round out the feature list.
The build fantasy is the hook. Fast attacks with a huge defence rating, or a glass-cannon, or a tank that outlasts bosses: the store page promises any combination is possible, and merging gear into the shape you want is genuinely the most interesting idea in the game. A caution on sources: the AI Mode mechanics pass for this title described other games that share the name, a whole family of mobile merge heroes, so everything above comes from the Steam store copy and the criticism record, not from mobile-variant guides.

Where it stumbles
The community's complaints are specific and unflattering. Inventories scramble when your character dies, wrecking merge-organised layouts that you then have to rebuild by hand. Money displays fail to update properly, and selling items in batches loses credit at the margins. Worse, players report soft-locks and occasional save corruption, and the campaign structure runs out at around eight levels, which reads as a tech demo rather than a finished loop. With development abandoned, none of it was ever fixed.
Playing it today
The Steam version is the only release, a token-priced Windows download with cloud saves. The similarly named mobile games are different products by different makers.
The verdict
A nearly-free curiosity with a good idea (merge your own build) trapped inside an abandoned shell (scrambling inventories, broken displays, an eight-level campaign). At this price the gamble costs almost nothing, but the honest recommendation is to treat it as a five-minute experiment rather than an idle to live in.
