Pet Lands
Hatch pets, mine quadrillions of coins, and unlock 100 hand-crafted areas in a gacha-flavoured idle adventure.

Pet Lands wants to be called dopamine heaven in its own store copy, and to be fair, the loop is engineered for it: mine quadrillions of coins, hatch pets to mine for you, and unlock 100 unique hand-crafted areas in a gacha-flavoured idle adventure from Tbjbu2 and Adria Martinez Exposito. It landed on Steam in November 2024, and its entire design tension is between the clicker you start with and the collection dashboard you become.
What the loop feels like
You start with your own two hands, clicking scattered treasure chests, resource piles and loose coins in the first hand-crafted area. The coins buy your first egg, the egg hatches a pet, and the pet starts mining for you while you sleep. Rare pets multiply the mining speed, and the hatching itself carries a collector's thrill, because every egg can roll a variant: Gold, Rainbow, Mega, Omega, the tier names escalating exactly as fast as your coin counts do.
Then the random events start interrupting the idle. Ice cubes, visiting dragons, screen-shaking pop-ups that shake loose bonuses if you catch them, and every 25 areas an ascension reset that makes you permanently stronger for the next run. You went from clicking piles of dirt to supervising a flying-mouth mining corporation spanning a hundred hand-crafted areas. That's Pet Lands.

The systems doing the work
Coin Mining and Active Clicking is the ignition, with manual collection bridging you until automation exists. Automated Pet Gathering is the idle engine, hatched pets converting eggs into passive income at rates set by rarity. Rarity and Variants is the gacha layer, with the Gold through Omega tiers giving every hatch a jackpot chance and the collection log a reason to keep hatching. Dynamic World Events inject active moments, from ice cubes to dragons, into what would otherwise be pure waiting. Exploration and Unlocking Areas is the progression map, over 100 hand-crafted zones each with steeper curves and fresh egg pools, punctuated by Ascensions every 25 areas that trade current progress for permanent power.

Where it stumbles
The Steam verdict sits at Mixed or lower, and the community's complaints cluster tightly. The grinding turns repetitive: once the hatching novelty wears off, the loop devolves into passive waiting or mechanical clicking without enough strategic depth to justify it. The hundred hand-crafted areas are real, but players describe the progression inside them as uninspired, stalling into mechanic recycling in the back half. And the gacha-flavoured rarity chase is doing a lot of load-bearing work, which sours for anyone who came for strategy rather than streaks. It is a secondary-window game by nature, and players who treat it as their main idle run out of reasons to keep it open.
Playing it today
It is on Steam for Windows, with a free demo on the store page for a taste of the hatch loop. If creature-collection idling is your lane, Capybara Clicker, Kitty Clicker and Fishlets all run gentler versions of the same dopamine trade.
The verdict
A gacha-hatching idle with real production values, a hundred hand-crafted areas and a collection chase that will either carry you for weeks or wear out by the second ascension. The Mixed-or-lower verdict is honest: try the demo, and let the first rare variant tell you whether your brain is the kind this game is built for.
