Race Star - Team Manager Game

Build a racing team that wins while you sleep: drivers, skill trees, card albums and club showdowns.

Race Star - Team Manager Game is Cool Cats Games' idle motorsport manager, released on the App Store in June 2026 as a free download. It takes the team-building fantasy of a paddock boss and compresses it into a phone-sized loop: sign a rookie, tune the garage, and let the team keep racing while you are gone. It borrows the surface of heavyweight management sims and deliberately skips their spreadsheets.

What the loop feels like

You start at the back of the grid with one driver and one car. Races resolve, prize money lands, and you spend it where it hurts least: a part here, a skill point there, a decal because it looks fast. The league above keeps losing to you until it does not, and promotion day is the whole sport. That's Race Star.

You return after a day away and the team has been busy: race results logged, resources banked, a card pack waiting to be opened. The album has three new entries, the duplicates became Stars, and the Star Shop has a part you have been eyeing. Your driver respecced nobody, so it is still your build, still working. That's Race Star.

How it actually works

The garage is the machine room. Vehicles upgrade with Vehicle Parts to push performance stats, and paint and decals make the fleet yours. The driver career sits on top: a skill tree with enough depth to matter, points you allocate by racing class, and a free respec whenever you want to test a new build, which is generous by genre standards. Idle progression runs underneath everything, racing and winning offline and paying out when you return.

The collection layer is where it diverges from other manager idlers. Reward packs open into themed albums, completed sets pay exclusive prizes, and duplicate cards convert into Stars for the Star Shop. The social cap is the Club: join one, field your team in Club Clash, a best-of-three ranked head-to-head, and stack Club Points toward shared rewards. League promotions frame the whole thing, from backmarker to front of the grid.

Where it stumbles

The difficulty curve has cliffs. Community pushback centers on competition that scales aggressively with your upgrades, meaning the field is sometimes unbeatable without either long grinding or spending, and the free-to-play walls land hardest right at promotion time. The race feed has quirks too, with telemetry text and position pop-ups occasionally falling out of sync with what is actually happening on track. And anyone arriving from a full-fat management sim should calibrate: this is a low-friction idle with tactical garnish, not a race-engineering sandbox, and it never pretends otherwise.

Playing it today

Free on the App Store, with in-app purchases for players who want to skip the walls. It is a phone-native release, so there is nothing to play in a browser. If the card-collection layer is your favorite part, Dinosaur Park-Jurassic Tycoon leans harder into pack chasing, and Clicker Racing takes a rougher, tap-driven swing at the same motorsport fantasy.

The verdict

A tidy idle-manager hybrid that knows exactly how big it wants to be, with a genuinely deep driver tree doing the heavy lifting. Treat the paywalls as speed bumps rather than betrayals and the paddock runs itself, which is the entire point.
