Wall Destroyer
Tellurium's 2014 IGM wall-punching classic: abandoned at v2.3.4, its sprites extracted from its own source.
by Tellurium · 3 May 2014 · Web (Idle Game Maker, abandoned)
Wall Destroyer is Tellurium's 2014 Idle Game Maker classic, released May 3rd and final at v2.3.4 that December, with the author's own Real Edition rewrite confirmed dead by the author himself. The premise is the genre stripped to its knuckles: you punch a wall, the wall yields bricks, and the bricks build a bigger fist. It became one of the IGM platform's landmarks, and this entry preserves it at the source level.
What the loop feels like
You punch the wall, the wall makes bricks, and the bricks build a bigger fist. That's Wall Destroyer.
The genre machinery grinds up from there: clicking tiers, automated punchers, prestige resets that turn the wall into a longer-running project, the full 2014 incremental vocabulary expressed through one Wall and one Fist. The comedy is in the restraint, a whole economy with exactly two nouns, and the depth is real enough that the game ran through two-plus versions of systems work in a single year before the author closed the ledger. That's Wall Destroyer: an entire idle canon built on knuckles and masonry.
The preservation story
Platform history gives the game its significance. Idle Game Maker was Orteil's experiment in letting anyone build a Cookie Clicker descendant in a browser, and it became a minor golden age: thousands of homemade incrementals, most forgotten, a few canonical. Wall Destroyer sits in the canonical tier, the kind of IGM game whose name still surfaces in genre discussions a decade on, and its structure, one noun to click, one economy to escalate, became the template for a hundred imitators. Preserving it meant preserving the shell it runs in, the pastebin that drives it, and the sprites embedded in its own source, which is why this entry reads like an archaeological report rather than a review.
This entry earned its irregular-row class and then some. The game lives inside Orteil's Idle Game Maker shell on dashnet.org, driven by a pastebin source that racked up hundreds of thousands of views, and our verification found the classic curl-vs-browser split: the shell 403s Cloudflare at the command line but renders fine in a real browser, which makes it abandoned rather than a dead link, a distinction the entry records carefully. Better still, the game's actual sprites were extracted from its own IGM source gist, the signature brick wall, the punch and brick buttons, and the puncher, with one webp needing a magic-byte correction on the way in. The final version, v2.3.4 from December 2014, is the documented endpoint. The author's Real Edition rewrite died with the author's own confirmation, giving the entry the rarest artifact in preservation: an epitaph in the developer's own words.
Playing it today
Through the IGM shell, which renders in a normal browser, with the game's authentic sprites preserved here. One capture limitation is documented: the shell rendered but the game canvas failed to screenshot, so no gameplay image exists, only the source-extracted art. For the platform's other landmarks, Orteil's own Cookie Clicker is the IGM ecosystem's reason to exist.
The verdict
An IGM-era landmark preserved at the source level: its own gist supplied the art, its own author supplied the epitaph for the rewrite, and the wall still stands for anyone with a browser and a fist.
