Zombidle: REMONSTERED
Berzerk's lovable necromancy smash-em-up: smash, loot, build the bonfire, REMONSTER everything.
by Berzerk Studio · 30 May 2017 (Steam REMONSTERED) · Steam (F2P) / Web / Mobile
Zombidle : REMONSTERED is Berzerk Studio's necromancy smash-em-up, free on Steam since May 30th, 2017 with web and mobile builds around it: smash houses, loot the rubble, summon monsters, and let the apocalypse run itself while you cackle. Berzerk's own pitch quotes the song: good guys finish last, and in this case they also finish homeless and on fire. You are not the good guys.
What the loop feels like
You smash a farmhouse, the farmhouse drops loot, and the loot summons a bigger monster to smash bigger houses. That's Zombidle.
The wiseman hoards, the kingdoms resist, and your skeleton army unionizes out of sheer enthusiasm. The comedy is Berzerk's real product: every upgrade arrives with a gag, every system has a punchline, and the evil-you-play is cartoonish enough that the smashing stays tactile rather than grim. Beneath the jokes runs the genre's full machinery, clicking, idle progression, prestige, and a loot economy, tuned for long sessions in the background. That's Zombidle, the rare evil-idle that is actually funny rather than merely themed.

How it actually works
The REMONSTERED edition gives the entry its shape. Berzerk's game predates its Steam release as a web title, and the 2017 Steam version gathered the content into the definitive build: the monster roster, the loot economy, and the comedy writing at full volume, with the free-to-play model funding the whole operation. The studio's own voice is part of the artifact: Berzerk was one of the web-game studios that successfully migrated to Steam's free tier, and Zombidle's tone, proudly stupid, mechanically serious, became the template for how a web idle presents itself on a store page. The entry's asset set reflects that transition, Steam-grade capsule art and 1080p screenshots standing where most browser-era entries make do with recovered favicons.
The systems are the genre's canonical stack executed with Berzerk's comic timing: active clicking smashes buildings, idle progression lets the monster horde keep marauding between sessions, prestige layers reset the rampage for permanent power, and the loot RPG layer turns destruction into summons and upgrades. The REMONSTERED Steam edition is the flagship build, with the web version and mobile ports carrying the same apocalypse to other screens, and the monetization follows the free-to-play conventions of its 2017 era. The catalog's verification work on this entry is worth noting: the original brief cited the wrong Steam appid, 444160, which belongs to a bonsai game, and the corrected 612020 was confirmed through both storesearch and appdetails, with the DLC apps deliberately excluded from the entry's scope. Eight Steam assets and three verified videos, including the official trailer, preserve the game's presentation.
Playing it today
Free on Steam, with web and mobile builds reachable through the developer's channels, and the appid correction on the record for anyone auditing the catalog. For the genre's other great free Steam evils, NGU Idle shares the comedy gene, and Clicker Heroes remains the earnest template Zombidle riffs on.
The verdict
One of the great free Steam idles: Berzerk's comedy timing holds up, the smashing is tactile, and the bonfire never goes out. A definitive entry, and a monument to finishing last, on fire, and loving it.
