Gamer Shop Simulator

Buy an abandoned store, scrub it clean, stock it, hire staff, pay your taxes, fight off thieves.

by DiamosDev · 6 Nov, 2021 · Steam (Windows)

The dream of owning a computer store, complete with the taxes, is the whole premise here. Gamer Shop Simulator by DiamosDev, released in November 2021, is a modest business-management incremental in which you buy an abandoned shop and nurse it into a going concern, one counter, one shelf and one hire at a time. It is a small game about a relatable fantasy, and it says so without embellishment.

What the loop feels like

The loop as described on the store page is pleasantly concrete: clear out the trash and old furniture, set up counters, buy stock, hire a salesperson, decorate the place. Money must be spent wisely because taxes come due and thieves come for your goods. That's Gamer Shop Simulator.

The rating gate is the most incremental-shaped part of the design: your store reputation gates which items you are even allowed to sell, so each tier of reputation unlocks a richer catalogue, which earns more money, which earns more reputation. Out of space? You buy additional space and keep expanding, which keeps the very concrete fantasy of a shop that physically grows intact. That is the whole engine, at the smallest scale it could be, and it ratchets exactly as advertised. That's Gamer Shop Simulator.

Where it stumbles

An honest gap first: our research pass for community texture came back misdirected, resolving to a different, unrelated shop-sim title, so this entry leans on the verified store facts alone and declines to borrow mechanics from the wrong game. The reception on Steam sits at mixed or lower across a small review population, which makes the community consensus hard to characterise more precisely than that. The design itself is small even on its own terms: the loop is shallow, the thief and tax pressures are simple bookkeeping rather than real threats, and the ceiling arrives not long after the space expansions run out, leaving the endgame as decoration and reputation polish. Approach with modest expectations and a look at recent reviews first.

Playing it today

It is a paid Steam release for Windows only, with no iOS, Android or browser version found in our platform check. If the fantasy appeals, the shop-management neighbourhood on Steam includes the card-shop and supermarket sims, and closer to home on this site the shop floors of Shop Titans and the retail-adjacent grind of Holyday City: Reloaded.

The verdict

A very small game about a very relatable fantasy, with a rough reception and a thin community record. The tax bill always comes due, in game and in review scores alike, and the honest move before buying is to read the newest reviews and see whether the current build treats you better than the launch one did.
