Hell's Night
Mark Girling's React horror incremental: souls, occult dread, an end-game screen, and a dead domain.
by Mark Girling · 2018 · Web (defunct, archived)
Hell's Night is Mark Girling's 2018 React-built horror incremental: collect souls, read the occult drips of text, and push toward an actual end-game screen, in the Candy Box / A Dark Room lineage of text-first dread. Its domain died (NXDOMAIN verified against three resolvers; the 2025 Wayback capture is a parked lander), with genuine live-era captures surviving from 2019 through the last playable one in February 2021, and the raw archived page preserved as evidence alongside this entry.
What it was
A pure text-and-CSS React app with no images at all: the research checked the page HTML, og tags, the 87.9KB JS bundle, the CSS, the favicons, and a domain-wide CDX query before concluding that zero imagery ever existed. That finding is recorded here as the verified negative it is.
The verdict
A lost horror-incremental with a complete evidentiary record: identity, death window, archived bundle, and an honest no-imagery finding. Read the entry; mourn the game.
