Let's Pet Pets
Pet pets, earn Pet Points, hire Helping Hands to pet while you are away, and prestige your way through a menagerie from anteaters to zebras.
by Mathew Kelly · 2024 · Steam
The pitch for Mathew Kelly's Let's Pet Pets fits in one breath: pet pets, earn Pet Points, spend Pet Points on Helping Hands, and the Helping Hands pet more pets for you forever, even while the game is closed. It is a small, sincere idle clicker that trades prestige-window anxiety for a menagerie of charming animals, and its Very Positive reception reflects a game that knows exactly how small it wants to be. Every system in it exists to keep one feeling alive: something cute should always be getting petted.
What the loop feels like
You drag the cursor across a very good animal and the Pet Points counter climbs. That's Let's Pet Pets.
Your Helping Hands keep petting overnight, and the morning haul is sitting there waiting for you. That's Let's Pet Pets.
A quest pays out Heart Points, an egg cracks open, and an anteater takes its place beside a zebra in the collection. That's Let's Pet Pets.

Under the hood
The resource web is tidy. Pet Points come from active petting and from each individually upgradable Helping Hand, which produces points every second whether you are watching or not. Items unlock at milestones and tune specific levers, from manual petting efficiency to the duration of the Pet Time Bonus, a temporary window that supercharges every source at once. Quests award Heart Points, Heart Points buy eggs, and every hatchling from anteater to zebra adds its own output and mini-quests, so collecting is mechanically rewarding rather than cosmetic.
Prestige closes the loop: resetting wipes your Helping Hands and items but keeps the pet collection, permanent eggs and major upgrades, converting momentum into Heart Points for the next climb. The community's rhythm is to hatch broadly early, since a diverse menagerie's background yields compound faster than one over-loved favorite, to save Pet Time Bonus activations for upgrade pushes, and to wait until progress crawls before prestiging. Nothing decays while you are gone, which makes it an unusually guilt-free member of the genre.

Where it stumbles
The core gesture divides the room. Petting is a cursor drag, not a click, and a vocal share of players find extended sessions genuinely fatiguing, one popular review calling it more RSI-inducing than normal clicking, which is a real problem for a game whose title is a verb. Completionists also report that chasing certain heart unlocks requires hours of manual petting that contradicts the idle spirit everywhere else in the design. And beneath the cute art, the strategic ceiling is low: past the first few hours there are fewer meaningful choices than dedicated incremental players will want.

The verdict
A wholesome, almost aggressively gentle idle that asks very little and costs less. If the petting motion wears on your wrist, Lofi Aquarium delivers a similar cozy second-monitor loop driven by a timer instead of a wrist.
