My Legend of Immortal Cultivation

A text-based xianxia idler: meditate, refine pills, draw talismans, and survive the tribulations of ascension.

by 倔强牛牛 · 7 Sep, 2023 · Steam (Windows)

Xianxia fiction has a word for the thing idle games do: guaji, hanging up, the practice of leaving your cultivator to meditate for a century while you get on with your life. My Legend of Immortal Cultivation (我的修仙传奇), by the developer 倔强牛牛, takes that word seriously. It is a text-heavy cultivation idler on Steam (September 2023) where the whole game is preparation, and the game plays itself while you plan the next century.

The framework is the classic mortal-to-immortal arc. Your character meditates, mines spirit stones, and grows spirit herbs, all passively. You return periodically, collect the yields, and spend them on the enormous craft web that defines the genre: alchemy, talismans, artifacts, formations and beasts.

What the loop feels like

You queue up a batch of pills in the alchemy panel, close your eyes metaphorically, and come back to a backpack full of elixirs. That's My Legend of Immortal Cultivation.

A tribulation is coming, so you spend an evening arranging defensive talismans, formation arrays and breakthrough pills like a soldier cleaning a rifle. Then the lightning falls, the numbers resolve, and either you ascend a realm or you read a very short obituary. That's My Legend of Immortal Cultivation.

The craft web

The systems are numerous for a small text game. Alchemy refines pills. Talisman drawing produces combat and utility charms. Artifact crafting and array setup handle equipment and positioning. Spiritual beasts breed. Around all of it sit the numbers that make loadout the main strategic verb: more than 150 recruitable companions to form a squad from, roughly 200 cultivation techniques, about 120 tools and around 200 consumables, with combat resolving from these choices rather than reflexes.

Fans of the Chinese-language idle scene will recognise the shape from browser-era guaji games; nearby entries in our catalogue include Your Chronicle, The last Practice Sect and XiuzhenWorld.

Where it creaks

The honest complaints are structural. It is a waiting-and-multiplier game at heart, so if the fantasy of cultivation does not grab you, there is nothing under the skin, and its Mixed Steam reception reflects exactly that divide. English-speaking players report translation and UI hurdles, and the presentation is menu-heavy text rather than spectacle. Compared to a full cultivation RPG it is a background management toy, and it is happiest being exactly that.

My Legend of Immortal Cultivation is a Windows release on Steam; we found no verified mobile release under the same developer.

The verdict

A faithful, menu-deep guaji idler that rewards planners and tribulation optimists, and leaves everyone else politely outside the sect.
