Tap Tap Dig: Idle Clicker Game
Dig through Earth, the Moon and Mars with a dog named Rocky and eleven other helpers swinging for you.

Tap Tap Dig: Idle Clicker Game is Iron Horse Games' 2018-era dig-idle, the original that a sequel later refined: you tap to swing a pickaxe through the planet's crust, hire a small army of helpers to dig in your absence, and eventually tunnel off-world entirely. The genre's dig-deeper loop had been done before, but this one added a planetary map to it, and that single idea carried it through years of updates and a fandom wiki still maintained today.
The structure is worth naming up front because it is the game's best idea: depth is not one infinite number. You break through distinct crust layers, each with its own character, and then the scale tips off-world, turning a mining game into a solar system tour one celestial body at a time.
What the loop feels like
You tap to swing the pickaxe, damaging underground layers and banking gold, with critical hits and squished earthworms paying bonus diamonds on the side. Rocky the loyal dog starts digging alongside you before long. That's Tap Tap Dig.
When progress stalls, fossils fund the prestige: resetting your depth progress earns the permanent currency that buys account-wide research and multipliers, and the Moon is suddenly a dig site rather than a destination. That's Tap Tap Dig.
How it actually works
The named systems divide the labor. Active tapping and digging is the manual layer: pickaxe swings damage strata for gold, and spawns like earthworms squish into bonus currency. Helpers are the automation layer, a roster of up to twelve named diggers, Rocky to Mack The Anchor to Jack Hammer, each generating passive gold per second as you level them. Benefactors sit above the helpers as global multipliers with distinct strategic buffs. And the progression spine runs through gold spending, fossil prestige and planetary advancement, where each new body, from the Moon to Mars and beyond, rescales your economy around higher baseline yields. Moonstones and Marstones are real currencies here, and the wiki documents the whole ladder.
Where it stumbles
The community's verdict on the original is lukewarm at best. Microtransaction pressure is heavy, with entire research trees, power-ups and bundles positioned behind real money, and the free economy feels the squeeze in the mid-game. The idle label is also honest in the wrong direction: passive dig damage scales poorly against manual tapping, so the early hours are more finger-blistering clicker than background toy. Next to its own sequel, which rebalanced both problems, the original plays like the rough draft of a better game.
Playing it today
Free on Google Play for Android, with the sequel carrying the franchise forward. For the same dig-and-descend itch on other platforms, Mr. Mine is the browser mining-idle with the deepest paper trail, and To The Core is the dig loop rebuilt as a strategy puzzle.
The verdict
Tap Tap Dig is a charming fossil itself: pleasant planetary structure, cute helper roster, and design assumptions a decade out of date. Dig it for the Moon trip, prestige out before the store page starts negotiating.
