Zoo Craft: Animal Park Tycoon

Build habitats, run the snack stands, and splice dragon genes in the magic laboratory.

by Lab Cave Gaming · 6 Nov 2017 · iOS / Android

Every zoo needs a panda, a dolphin and, apparently, a griffin. Zoo Craft: Animal Park Tycoon is the freemium zoo builder from Creative Mobile's Lab Cave, released in its modern form in 2017 and still carrying the ZooCraft: Animal Family branding in places. It is a bright, busy animal park sim where habitats, ice cream stands and a magic laboratory share the same campus, and where splicing two animal genes can produce something mythical.

What the loop feels like

Visitors wander your zoo toward the habitats, spending at the ice cream stands, restaurants and souvenir kiosks along the way. You build enclosures for pandas, cheetahs, dolphins and orcas, keep the residents healthy, and chase stray butterflies around the park for bonus cash. The magic laboratory hums in the corner, waiting for two sets of genes. That's Zoo Craft.

The lab is where the game goes strange and good. Splicing the genes of two animals produces rare hybrids, and the breeding tree eventually reaches dragons and griffins among more than two hundred species. Visitors queue to see the results, your zoo status climbs, and the campus grows another concession stand. That's Zoo Craft.

How it actually works

The documented systems cover three layers. Habitat building and management is the base: construct and upgrade enclosures tailored to animal families, keeping residents healthy and visitors entertained. The magic laboratory is the signature: splicing and merging species genes to discover rare hybrids and mythical breeds, the mechanic that separates ZooCraft from straightforward zoo sims. The guest economy covers visitor flow, concession stands, kiosks and attractions, with active tap-based tasks like catching stray butterflies and dragonflies yielding extra cash or premium currency. Progression runs through missions that award experience and zoo status points, with community tips emphasising guiding guests toward high-yield areas like the central fountain.

Where it stumbles

The criticism follows the freemium playbook. Timers bite: breeding and construction often run longer than the timed visitor requests they are meant to serve, so patience is taxed. Multiple premium currencies bloat the economy and slow free-to-play progression, and the simulation itself is deliberately shallow, trading realistic zoo management for casual mechanics and gene-splicing whimsy. Content updates have slowed to a trickle for dedicated players, and anyone arriving from the deep end of the genre, Planet Zoo and its kin, will find the ceiling low and close.

Playing it today

Free on both stores with in-app purchases, reasonably rated by its family audience across hundreds of App Store ratings, and still online years after launch. Get it on the App Store for iOS or on Google Play for Android, where it appears as Zoo Craft: Animal Town Tycoon. For park management with more teeth, our Overcrowded entry runs the guest-economy logic at theme-park scale, and Dinosaur Park swaps pandas for apex predators.

The verdict

A colourful, low-stress zoo builder whose gene-splicing laboratory elevates an otherwise standard freemium loop. Fine for kids and casual zookeepers, thin for anyone comparing it to the PC greats.
