Immortal Taoists-MUD Wuxia
A playable Xianxia novel: cultivate Qi, join a sect, raise a spiritual mountain, and grind your way to immortality.
by SINGAPORE AZURE TIMES PTE. LTD. · 21 Aug 2019 · iOS
The cultivation novel is China's most reliable fantasy formula: a mortal grinds toward immortality, one realm at a time. Immortal Taoists turns that grind into the game itself. Singapore Azure Times released this MUD-style Wuxia idle in August 2019, marketing it as a playable novel adapted from a popular Xianxia serial, and it plays exactly like that sounds: text, menus, timers, and a cultivation base that climbs whether you are watching or not.
What the loop feels like
Your cultivator sits in meditation, and Qi accumulates in the background. You check in, break through a minor realm, and allocate the spoils: a new technique from the sect library, an elixir from the alchemy bench, an apprentice set to gathering wood on your spiritual mountain. You close the app and the Qi keeps flowing. That's Immortal Taoists.
The texture comes from fortune encounters. A beggar on the roadside turns out to be an ageless hermit offering spells; a deep-mountain expedition turns up a rare herb or a fabled elixir. Sect contribution points accumulate, companions in your dwelling warm toward you, and the next major realm waits at the top of a very long number. That's Immortal Taoists.
How it actually works
The core loop is cultivation and Qi generation, a passive resource climb whose speed depends on your Perception and Absorption rates, themselves tied to your Spirit Root and its elemental affinities. The stat architecture is explicit: Life Essence drives attack power, Strength governs defence, Vital Energy is the health pool, and Dexterity sets dodge chance with a cap at 50 percent. The dwelling is the economic backbone: managing a Spiritual Mountain's gathering of wood, iron and food, hiring apprentices, upgrading gathering arrays, and running Alchemy and Blacksmithing professions. Sects gate the skill layer, granting secret tomes, heavenly skills and combat arts, with contribution points doubling as passive income and reputation. The long arc runs from mortal-realm optimization, maxing the Spirit Root and buying market sutras, through Ascension and the heaven-tier content beyond.
Where it stumbles
Players are blunt about the interface: an avalanche of menus, subsystems and daily tasks turns a relaxing idle into chore management, and the clutter is the single most common complaint. The monetisation follows the mobile-ported cultivation formula, with top-tier competitiveness and quality-of-life conveniences like efficient automation leaning on microtransactions. Long-term players report burnout as progression slows to a glacial crawl in later realms, leaving routine maintenance where adventure used to be. And measured against deep PC cultivation games, it remains what it advertises: a text-and-timer novel you click through.

The verdict
A dense, text-driven cultivation idle that rewards patient number-watching and punishes anyone hoping for action. Deep for the genre, cluttered in the hand, and exactly as grindy as the novels it adapts.
