Idle Royale
Write JavaScript, race bots to 2×10¹⁰: angarg12's competitive scripting idle.
by angarg12 · 2018 · Web
Despite the name, Idle Royale is not a battle royale: it is angarg12's competitive scripting idle, hosted free on GitHub Pages, where your weapon is JavaScript. You write a script in a CodeMirror editor, five slots per match, and that script races an opponent bot's script to a goal of 2×10^10. Generators, upgrades and spells all sit under your code's control, so the idle loop is literally your logic.
What the loop feels like
A match starts and the turn counter rolls: your generators produce power per turn, tier one through eight with prices escalating from 15 up into the hundreds of millions, while upgrades at four levels per tier double each tier's production. The opponent bot runs its own economy in parallel, and both progress bars crawl toward the goal while your script makes every buy decision. That's Idle Royale.
The spells are the drama: Surge boosts your production, Drain cuts the enemy's, and Armageddon, Humility and Weakness exist as scorched-earth levers your script can pull, destroying generators, disabling upgrades or zeroing power. Watching a fast-forwarded match where both scripts juggle economy and sabotage is the payoff, and the opponent list, IblobTouch, Bot, pinkiedash417, mgronbach, Ascendental, is community scripts you can study and out-build. That's Idle Royale.

How it actually works
The named systems are head-to-head scripting, the eight-tier generator economy, per-tier doubling upgrades, the five-spell combat layer, and match controls for play, fast-forward and restart. The repo describes itself plainly: an idle game where you have to write a script to automate your play and beat an opponent bot, and the wiki doubles as a tutorial for exactly that. Match state shows a turn counter and dual goal progress bars, so a run stays legible even mid-fast-forward.
Where it stumbles
This entry was rewritten from a lean research file without a dedicated criticism pass, so the limits here are the verifiable ones. It is a text and table UI with no promotional art, the audience is strictly people who write or paste JavaScript, and at v0.8.5 it remains what its author called it, an experiment. If you do not want to read code, there is no game here for you, and the interface will not soften that.
Playing it today
Free and open source at angarg12.github.io/IdleRoyale, with source and the tutorial wiki on GitHub. It runs in the browser with no install. If the code-as-playbook idea appeals, Cookie Clicker is the manual ancestor every idle shares, and SPACEPLAN shows how far a minimal text-and-button frame can carry an idle.
The verdict
For programmers only, gloriously so: the idle loop is your code, the competition is real, and the leaderboard is earned. One of the genre's best programming crossovers.
